Texas 2003
My incident occurred roughly 15 years ago. Now I’m not suggesting those that choose to remain anonymous are lying. I simply prefer to use mine in the unlikely event more information not in this account is needed. My name is Casey Sauer and those that know me know I’m not prone to lying and I often hike, camp, surf hurricanes and tropical storms, kayak off shore and the dark bayous of the Gulf Coast alone. It’s just the way I’ve always done things. Little planning is necessary if I’m the only person going:) I’m from Southeast Texas and went on a hike in a place named Turkey Creek. It’s roughly 20 miles of a north/south running trail just south of Warren Texas. It was winter and rather cold for southeast Texas, the mid to lower 50s. I started out late but everything was normal and exactly what I needed. Peace and quiet with no one around. I hiked in 5 miles or more. Turned ea st and set up camp 50 to 60 feet off the trail.
I rarely used a tent unless rain was likely.
I just used my sleeping bag and a hammock strung between two trees. By the time I settled in it was dark. I ate then laid back in my hammock. It was around midnight and I was dosing off when I heard it.....a howl north of me.
It sounded far off. The only way I could describe it is exactly like the werewolf howl from the movie American Werewolf in London. From the early scene where the two backpackers are walking through the moors. Look it up on YouTube and listen.
It was powerful long and inhuman sounding. It seemed like it was somehow amplified.
My first thoughts were that some local country teenagers had parked at the northern trailhead and were screwing around. Within maybe 3 to 5 minutes the second howl split the darkness but this one was closer, much closer. My thoughts were that same group of teenagers saw my car and had decided to come down the trail and scare whoever was camping.
Not much scares me when I’m in the woods. I’m at home there and very adept at using my environment to my advantage. I’ll never forget that third howl. It was way too close for this to have been teenagers traveling south down the trail let alone a human. It covered 4 or more miles in 10 to 15 minutes, which could be possible but very unlikely at night and in that moderately rough terrain.
The main difference is I felt this one. It past through me and left me on the verge of total panic. I looked at my fire and was thinking I should put it out and move deeper into the thicker bush to hide, but I was paralyzed.
I’m not boasting here but up until that time in my life I always functioned efficiently and calmly in times of high stress.
Then it became deathly quiet. The 4th howl hit me and I nearly piss myself. It was directly to my west and it was on the the trail. I cannot explain this but I knew it was facing me and it was tall. I knew It was looking at me but I could not see outside the bubble of my fire’s light.
I felt it in my body tissue and am shaking now while I write this. It had covered 5 miles very fast and I was frozen with a fear I’ve never felt.
I was waiting for it to cross over that short distance and devour me.
It never did and after what seemed like an eternity the normal noises started up. I heard it once more but it was to my south.
Needless to say I stayed up until first light. Packed my stuff and walked out quickly and quietly.
I never even thought about it being a Bigfoot until two nights ago .
I was listing to these Bigfoot Case Files and listened to some of the vocalizations that are thought to be a Bigfoot. Then I heard it and it was like flashing back in time to that moment at Turkey Creek.
Now those vocalizations might not be a Bigfoot but it was exactly what I heard that night. I’ve never heard it before or since. I’ve heard bears, wolves, coyotes, owls, and many many other animals and people in the woods and I know those sounds well.
