North Bay Ontario, May 1995
I'm not sure what it was I heard but it has bothered me ever since it happened. My friend and I always went on a yearly getaway to north bay Ontario for the long weekend to do some trout fishing.we would go to the same lake every year and would camp there for 4 or 5 days.we would never bring tens, we would always just make a Tepee out of sticks and fallen trees. This lake we go to is a long way from civilization. I'm talking about a 30 minute drive down a dirt road with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. You come up to a little lake and if you didn't know it you would think that was the only lake around. We would paddle to the far end of the lake and you would hit a little river,no more the 3 feet wide. We would fallow this river going over beaver dams and sometimes we would have to get out and carry all of our gear because the river got to narrow. We would fallow this river f or an hour and a half ending up at another lake. I've never seen any signs of other people going there. It was always the same way we left it the year before. After we built our tent and got some fishing in that evening we hit the sake. I must say out tepee was built about 6 or 7 feet off of a game trail. You couldn't see tracks or anything but you could tell it was well used by animals. Well the first night we got there we were sleeping and I woke up to something walking on the trail right beside the tepee. We never brought guns or anything but when I heard something walking I grabbed the axe that was at my feet because what I heard didn't sound like an animal, it was walking on 2 feet.I kept the axe at my feet because I told my buddy if a bear sticks his head in here at night Im splitting his head in 2. My buddy laughed and said, brother you hit a bear you're just going to piss it has off so don't bother. I listened to it walk up closer to our tepee and stop a couple of feet away. This is when I gave my buddy a shake and said someone is outside our tent. He said in a low voice there is no one here, I said listen someone is walking out there. So my buddy yelled out, hey! Whos out there? And just as fast as he said it whatever it was ran in the opposite direction fast as hell. You could tell it was running on 2 feet and was heavy. The next day we looked for tracks but found nothing. Now I must mention there is only one way into this lake and we would always camp at the entrance of the lake where the river meets it. If anyone was to show up there we would have seen them. Like I said earlier I've never seen any kind of signs that any other people visit this spot. It was a family secret for years. This lake is not even on the map. That how small it is. Im not saying no one else knows about it but I've never seen signs of anyone else ever being there. It has bothered me ever since it happened. Thanks for listening.
