Late 1960s NY

my family used to rest a cabin on cayaga lake one of the finger lakes in ny state i was 14 or 15 i think i used to walk up and down some of the ravines now and then out of bordeum and i would try to walk slowly and carefully as to quite so i could see any animals
pne day i came around this bend in the ravine and i thought was a young child playing in the stream when i got closer i saw that it was covered with long black hair over its entire body i carefully slowed down and called out to it it turned toward me and as it did so i saw that it was totally with out any kind of clothing i carefully walked toward it as calmly and unafraid as at the time i had no idea what it was i kept my hands up in a non threatening way and tried to talk to it when it turned around and ran up the side of this ravine like any human would have doing broken field running playing football and this ravine WAS STEEP i got back to the cabin and asked if there was a circus around and had any monkeys had gotten loose when my dad asked why i told him why i ended up getting beaten for what he thought was a big lie
i have never told anyone that story since then
