Clouds Rest Yosemite
This account is 100% factual ! I went on a solo back packing trip in Yosemite , I do solo hikes all of the time so I’m not at all nervous in the wilderness by myself . But this time I was approached at the trail head by a pretty young woman and she asked if I would like to hike to Clouds Rest with them ( she had two girl friends , And one of the girls was with her boy friend .) They were about 20 years younger than me . This is important to know. They were totally prepared for the hike and experienced back packers .
The hike is a full day of strenuous up hill from 6,000’ to over 10,000’ ending at a cliff looking down on Half Dome . At the end of the trail you walk between two or three large boulders to a flat spot on the mountain . A perfect place to camp . They pitched their tents there but I didn’t , I just felt more comfortable sleeping on the other side of the boulders away from the cliff . Also I felt that they would feel better if I was a little further way than on a narrow strip of rock that was dangerously close to the cliff .
We had dinner and talked all night . Although it was mid October it was unseasonably warm . This was one of the most pleasurable night I have ever had in the Sierras. When it was time to go to bed they just went in their tents but I went to the place I decided to pitch my tent and I set up my tent with a flash light for light . The whole time I was nervous and felt like I was being watched . So I didn’t stake my tent down real well , after I was done I crawled in closed everything up and tried to go to sleep . The entire time we were talking it was the calmest night I have experienced at that elevation. But soon after I got in my tent the wind started to really shake the tent , so much so that after quite some time it started lifting the tent down at my feet ,about 9 or 10 inches off the ground . So I move down to weight it down .
So my head was in the middle of the tent when I was about 90% asleep the tent was smashed straight down on my head , the cross members of the tent hit the side of my head harder than I’ve ever been hit before . (Except when I got in a car accident). It came straight down not at an angle as if pushed from above . I screamed in pain at once the tent stopped shaking . I fell asleep or pass out with no more disturbance that night .
When I woke up I was wondering how the others handled the massive wind that happened that night . When I ask them how they survived the wind storm they all just stared at me, than one of them said that was one of the calmest night they have ever had in the mountains . Then said there was no wind . This startled me because I was only 30 feet away from them how could that happen !
Many years later I was watching Monster Quest laying in bed with my wife one of the Campers in Alaska gave an account so eerily similar that I freaked out realizing that I was not just having a weird night but was in fact being harassed by a sasquatch . A friend showed me a video of a squatch that was taken at about the same time in the same vicinity .
No one believed it but I do !
More details...
This incident happened in late October 1993, also I felt that it was strange
But I continued my vacation camping alone the entire time , with no real concern about any possible danger .
While I felt that something was watching me , I dismissed it as me just being nervous at setting up my tent in almost complete darkness in the wilds of Yosemite. I didn’t know that there are so many people that come up missing in Yosemite doing what I just did , (separating from a group ). They tried to talk me into camping next to them , as it would be safer. The next morning I hiked out and traveled up to Tahoe , which brings me to the location of my first experience with sasquatch : July 1972 , two friends and I were camping in the high meadows area . We were there 2 weeks with little contact from other back packers . At night we would go out in the forest alone to get fire wood as the fire burned down I was always nervous doing that and one of my friends admitted that he was too . Nothing note worthy happened, but two of us went hiking one day, down a small stream that ran
past our camp site . We walked through some high brush into a small clearing .About 150 yards away from our camp site. In the middle of the clearing was a very large tree structure like a tee pee but way to large to be built by a human !
We just stared at it , finally I asked my friend how he thought it got there , who could have built it ,it wasn’t in a logical place to build anything of that size. There was no path leading to it . a total mystery that I never forgot . Decades later I found out about the tree structures that are attributed to sasquatch habitation . It at least gave me some answers to age old
questions that never went answered until recently .
One friend and my wife had no problems believing me , because they know I don’t lie . But the one friend I told you about that in no way was going to believe Me ,finally said something very interesting .
We were climbing a mountain here in San Diego I told him what happened to me in Yosemite . There was no convincing him that sasquatch was a real possibility … the usual it must have been a bear …a racoon … a mountain lion etc. a tree branch fell. As the tent was not at all damaged , nothing with claws touched my tent . Then he went silent for a minute , then relayed an incident to me that happened to him and his wife , it goes as follows:
He had just gotten out of the army and was coming back into the southland . They were traveling down the coast of Oregon at night , and a very violent storm hit so hard that it was very unsafe to drive . He couldn’t see the highway the rain was so heavy , and so he decided to pull off into a camp ground and wait it out until morning . They were in a volkswagon bug . They pulled in to the camp ground put the seats back and fell asleep . Some time after midnight the car started to shake violently as he described like a very large earth quake but only for a few seconds . He couldn’t see out the windows because they were fogged. As soon as it started it stopped. There were no reports of an earth quake at any time in that area . He stated the shaking was abrupt and very intense he knew something was shaking the car.
I laughed and said what could have possibly done that . His response was teenagers , maybe. I said they’re not out in the middle of the forest at night in the rain and even he admitted that the car shook way to much for it to have been a person or even a group of people.
And he doesn’t believe that it could have been a bigfoot harassing his car ?
I think he’s wrong , what do you think !
Thank you Don
